Still Alive

Hey there. Still alive. It's been a few weeks since my last post. I just don't like making an entry unless I have an image to go with it. Unfortunately my new job has been taking up a lot of my time, and usually when I get in I just can't be bothered to draw.

Lame huh.

Anyway, what's up with me? Well aside from the aforementioned Christmas job I have been trying to work through Dragon Age. I'm playing it on 360 and it seems really easy. I don't think I've ever had a single proper game over (where all my party died) except maybe in the Fade when I could only control my main character. The plot of the game is pretty generic fantasy stuff but it's pretty engaging nonetheless.

I've also finished the campaign for Modern Warfare 2 (which was pretty short) and tried it online (where I got my arse handed to me many times). The press are obviously jumping through the regular hoops claiming it's the worst thing to happen to humanity since that last video game that was the worst thing to happen to humanity. Modern Warfare 2 is a violent game but it's no worse than any other shooter you could pick up off the shelf (airport level aside of course but I believe Soldier of Fortune might have done that first anyway). It's just because it's such a high profile title that it's getting a lot of coverage.

It doesn't help that a lot of what the public it told is complete misinformation. I had one customer in today telling her friend that it apparently had excessive drug taking in it. As far as I can recall there isn't any drug taking let alone excessive. It's just a bit gory.

But it's not the press' fault really. Parents just don't really understand the ratings system. Most of them think that they're 'suggested' rather than 'legal' and mostly just suggestions on the difficulty of the game. If that is true, why does Forza 3, the complicated driving simulation, have 3+ rating from PEGI? Most of the parents that come in asking for 'That new modern welfare game' wouldn't let their kids watch an 18 film, but would buy them an 18 game.

What we need is better education for parents rather than calls from the tabloid press to tighten the law.

Good post Sam, see you don't always need an image.

I completely agree about ignorant parents, they complain about mature content in videogames and then buy the game for their kids. The game isn't meant for them, there's an 18 symbol on the box, so don't complain when your little darling see's something they shouldn't!
