This was a pretty interesting little learning exercise. I think it's a fairly accurate copy. It's not perfect, and I still see a few niggles but I think it's possible that I always will. You can overwork something like this easily.

I'm not sure exactly what I learned, not neccessarilly anything big, but lots of little tricks to speed up the process maybe.

Work in progress (aren't they always). Still need to finish the body, but I'd like to get around to fixing up the mask and the neck if I can.

I've got some saves of this in various stages so maybe I'll do a mini-guide sort of deal. Might be fun.

State of the IllustratUNION

I like the pun in the title too.

So I moved some stuff to the portfolio pages. It's pretty much identical to how it has been for god knows how long, but it's a tiny bit more current now. Just a tiny bit. When I get around to it I will probably update the full thing, but I am so very busy.

So me and art, where am I?

Well first of all Jim and Lucien isn't dead. I have been working on it in my spare time, but very slowly. I have drawn a couple of pages but they're out of sequence with each other so I need to fill in some blanks first. It is coming back. Whether you like it or not. (but I hope you do because it starts getting pretty good pretty soon, at least in my head).

Secondly, I want to upload some of the mini books that I have made and Oli W has featuring some of my work. The last one he did about books as a whole was pretty phenomenal actually. Although it might be entirely down to his leet design skills, but they made my illustrations look good.

As an addendum to that I've bought a new(ish) sketch book and it's filling up quite a bit. Once I get round to it I'll post some pretty pictures up.

Thirdly, will someone please give me a job?

This is a work in progress, but it came out ok. I'm deliberatly practicing digital painting in Black and White for now as I need to learn how to use tone more effectively. I intend to do a colour version too.

This is my first experiment of sorts with digital painting. I took a screen grab from this music video, and tried to paint it. It's unfinished and I think it's not great. But whatever.

I found this on my hard drive earlier. It made me laugh and I'm not sure if I've uploaded it before. It was for a sketchbook project at university revolving around the weather. I originally was going to animate line drawings of houses being smothered in masking tape as if the tape was the dust. My lecturers told me not to, so in the end I ended up illustrating a short story by William S. Maughm (which is here).

Random Album Cover

I found this thing on Facebook, a lit of instructions for a 'Random Album Cover'. I did it just to see what it would turn out like, seemed ok to me in the end.

Instructions: 1 - Go to wikipedia and hit random. The first random wikipedia articley ou get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to quotationspage.com and hit random. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first ...album.
3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”. Third picture ......no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 - Use photoshop or similar (picnik.com is a free online photo editor) to put it all together.
5 - Post it with this text in the "caption" and TAG the friends you want to join in
